Six LSSU Players Suspended
Six Lake Superior State University players have received two-game
suspensions as a result of participation in a hockey tournament in
Ontario last April, according to LSSU Athletic Director Bill Crawford.
In addition, the four seniors, one junior, and one sophomore were each
docked an equal percentage of scholarship money.
"They didn't take any money or compensation," said Crawford, who de-
clined to name the players. "And no one was kicked off the team. We
doled out the punishment, and the NCAA said, 'OK.' "Crawford added,
"It's unfortunate. We have a coaching staff going into the last season
of its contract."

Well, isn't that a ringing endorsement of the Laker coaching staff ....
It seems that a coaching change is likely in the Soo in the near-future,
but given the difficulties venerable Harvard is having securing a new
coach (having B. Beaney, J. Marsh, and now T. Taylor withdraw their
candidacies), how difficult will it be for LSSU to bring a new coach on
board ?? There's three National Title Banners hanging in Taffy Abel
Arena, but things haven't been so rosy in Sault Ste. Marie since the
departure of Jeff Jackson to the US Natl. Team. Can the Lakers rebound
back to national prominence ?? Is this still a plum job ?? Stay tuned,
but curious Eastern hockey fans are wondering ....
Cheers from Maryland - Jim
