Libraries Digital Literacy Resource Exchange
Today more than ever, basic digital literacy is becoming a necessity at all levels of a community. Libraries are often on the front lines of helping individuals navigate technology. As many Maine communities are working to expand access to broadband, residents are seeking out the ways that technology can improve their quality of life in areas such as education, work, or the ability to age in place.
In smaller rural communities, libraries often provide the only access to high-speed internet, and while this may bring more patrons through the doors, it can be challenging to meet the diverse questions and needs that arise around digital literacy. However, some great work is happening in libraries across the Midcoast and throughout the state, both formally and by utilizing volunteer tutors for "drop-in" tech help. Other libraries are seeing the need, but might lack the staff capacity or direction for how to get started.
The Island Institute and the Rockland Public Library are excited to host a meeting that brings together local libraries to exchange ideas and resources for addressing digital literacy needs in your communities.
We hope to see you there! Lunch will be provided for those attending in person. Zoom available for those unable to attend in person. Please share this information with your tech support colleagues!
