ORONO, Maine (AP) -- The University of Massachusetts-Lowell
blanked defending national hockey champion Maine 5-0 on the Black
Bears' home ice Sunday, handing the Bears their first shutout in
seven years.
Senior Dwayne Roloson made 28 saves to give Maine its second
consecutive loss. The Chiefs also gave the Bears their first
shutout in 304 games; the last team to stop Maine cold was
Michigan State in a 4-0 game on Nov. 22, 1986.
The Chiefs took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Ian Hebert
wristed a 10-footer past Maine goalie Blair Allison. Lowell put
in two more in the first period -- Mike Murray's goal on Shane
Henry's setup in front, and a shot from the left point by Dave
Barrozino.
The other Lowell scorers were Christian Sbrocca and Greg
Bullock, on a power play.
Roloson was the first Lowell goalie since 1987 to notch a
shutout.
Lowell is now 8-3-2 overall, and 5-2-1 in Hockey East, while
Maine falls to 8-5 overall and 7-3 in Hockey East.
