After Fridays 3-2, double-overtime thriller against Harvard Crimson,
Northern Michigan Wildcats fell short of overcoming the Boston
Terriers. The Wildcats, who finish the season with a 21-18-4 record,
gave all they had in Saturday afternoon's challenge. But the Terriers
were all too ready to tear the cats to shreds.

Shreds was what Boston had in mind. NMU's Dave Huettle would throw a
had check then BU's Jon Pratt and Jon Jenkins would retaliate with two
forceful checks on NMU. Greg Hadden won a battle over the puck only to
have it easily cleared by BU's defense. NMU Coach Rick Comley said
"They're the strongest team we've played all season. They have some
kamikazes out there that sent us a message."

The Terriers drew first blood and the 49 second mark of the first
period. BU's Mike Bavis slipped a quick rebound shot past NMU goalie
Paul Taylor. 1-0 BU. BU's attack continued throughout the period
and ending in another tally for the terriers at 19:30 (Steve Thornton).

The second period was more a more balanced contest. BU kept putting on
the pressure, but NMU finally cracked down and began to control the
corners of BU's defensive zone. NMU's hard checking tried to intimidate
the terriers' blood-thirsty attack. Like adding salt to a wound, BU's
Sacco rifled a shot from the point giving BU a 3-0 lead at 2:58 of the
second period.

Frederick and Hadden of NMU showed some excellent passing and
stickhandling ability toward the end of the second. Their efforts showed
NMU still had some power--Hadden wristed a shot past BU's Derek
Herlofshky at 14:05, resulting in shorted goal, unfortunately NMU's only
goal.

Third period was full of terrier attacks. It looked like NMU was simply
"out of gas" (NESN's sportscaster). BU dominated the puck, cleared
the zone and had Herlofsky lob away any shot directed toward the net.
With 1:01 remaining in regulation,NMU pulled Taylor (who had thirty-five
saves for the evening). But, the extra attacker was not enough to stop
BU from sealing NMU's fate.

Some information was paraphrased from the Marquete Mining Journal, March
28, 1993 (Happy Birthday Dwayne) and NESN's fine March 27 telecast of
BU v. NMU.
