Bill poses the following:
>Doesn't it seem strange that *none* of the top 5 goal scorers and only
>*two* of the top 5 assist leaders are among the top 10 overall scorers?
Good question. Did you also notice that six of the top 10 overall
scorers (listed by average points per game) are from the ECAC?
All of the leading goal scorers and the top three assist leaders
are from the West (CCHA and WCHA), where their teams have played
on the average about eight more games than the ECAC teams and
about 4-6 more than Hockey East teams.
Someone could infer from this that more goals are scored in the
ECAC than other leagues, although they play fewer total games (no
ECAC goalie was listed in the top 10). In fact, ECAC teams are
averaging more goals per game (overall) than the CCHA and WCHA, but
not Hockey East.
Also note that three of the top five scorers are Harvard's top line,
which amassed their numbers beating up on the ECAC's weaker teams.
Now that Harvard is playing the tougher teams, they will drop among
the leaders.
