shouldnt the play have resulted in a 4 on 3? the penalties didnt occur at the same time, just because it was the same player do they stack differently? ferris should have had 2 in the box for 5 and 2 or one for 7 but neither happened just one for 5?

are am i confusing pro rules with college again?

Ferris State's TJ Schlueter did get a minor for hooking, a major for
checking from behind, and a game misconduct.  However, Cole Bardreau
(the Cornell player whom he hooked and then checked into the boards)
also took a minor for hitting after the whistle.  Since there was
another penalty called at the same time, neither minor went on the
board, although I assume Bardreau had to sit for two minutes.  (If
Schlueter hadn't been ejected, he would have had to sit for seven
minutes and someone else would still have had to go into the box to
serve his major so he could leave at the end of it.)

Now, of course, on TV it looked like all Bardreau did to earn the
penalty was get in Schlueter's face and start yelling at him before he
was pulled away by another Bulldog.  But presumably the refs didn't
want to give Cornell a 7-minute power play (I think that's what you're
supposed to do if both penalties are to the same player), so they
called the Bardreau penalty to make the original hooking minor go
away.
