MEN'S HOCKEY STREAK OVER UNION ENDS
Dutchmen win, 5-4, to break six-game winless streak (0-5-1)

Union College got a goal and two assists from Joel Beal and two goals from
Scott Seney, including the game-winner, to defeat Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute (RPI), 5-4, in a Division I ECAC Hockey League game before a
crowd of 3,415 at the Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y.

With the victory, the Dutchmen improve to 4-5-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the
league and snaps a six-game unbeaten streak against the Engineers
(0-5-1). Rensselaer falls to 5-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the ECACHL. The
same two teams will meet on Saturday night at Messa Rink in Schenectady (7pm).

Union jumped out to a quick lead just 2:46 into the first period when
freshman forward Casey Ftorek stole a clearing attempt and scored on a
wristshot from the left faceoff circle. The goal was the first of his
collegiate career. Rensselaer tied the game at 9:07 of the opening stanza
on a power play goal from senior defenseman Matt McNeely. McNeely
one-timed a pass from senior forward Nick Economakos for his fourth goal of
the season. Brad Farynuk also assisted on the play. The Dutchmen
countered with a power play goal of their own on a tic-tac-toe play between
Jordan Webb, Beal and Michael Benyon. Webb got the goal, scoring from the
bottom of the right faceoff circle, while Beal had the primary assist and
Benyon the secondary.

Seney put the visitors ahead by two goals with a power play goal from the
slot at 6:29 of the second period before RPI tallied the next two to tie
the game. Freshman Andrew Lord tallied on a rebound from the edge of the
crease at 9:42 and Kevin Croxton scored a power play goal at 17:47. Union
regained the lead with just 41 seconds left in the period on a rebound goal
by Beal. Poirier and Webb both earned assists on Beal's goal, his first of
the season.

Seney got the eventual game-winner just 37 seconds into the third period on
a rebound of an Olivier Bouchard shot. Economakos pulled RPI to within one
goal midway through the third period but the Engineers could not get the
equalizer.

In addition to Beal and Seney, other multiple point producers for the
Dutchmen were Webb, who had a goal and an assist and Poirier, who had two
helpers. Kris Mayotte made 21 saves, including 12 in the third period, to
improve to 3-3-0 on the season.

Andrew Martin, who entered the game in relief in the second period, made
ten saves while suffering the loss. Jordan Alford stopped 11 shots in the
game's first 26:29.
