Weasler Gains WCHA Defensive Player of the Week Honors

St. Cloud, Minn. -- St. Cloud State University goalie Dean Weasler, who
posted his fourth career shutout and allowed just one power play goal in
120:00 of play, has been selected as the WCHA men's hockey defensive player
of the week for games on Feb. 9-10. Weasler helped guide the Huskies to a
2-0 (Feb. 9) and a 4-1 (Feb. 10) win at Alaska-Anchorage this weekend.
    A 5-10, 186-pound junior from Rosemount, Weasler recorded a .976 saves
percentage in the series and blanked the host Seawolves in five of six
periods. He stopped all 15 shots he faced in the 2-0 shutout on Feb. 9, and
then came back to register 25-of-26 saves on Feb. 10. The lone goal was a
power play by UAA in the third period on Feb. 10.
Weasler, who gave up his redshirt status this year to replace injured
starter Scott Meyer (White Bear Lake) two weeks ago (vs. CC), has already
charted a 3-0 record with a 1.88 goals-against average and a .921 saves
percentage.
The victories improve SCSU's record to 22-7-1, 15-7-0 in the always
rugged WCHA. The Huskies are currently tied to third place in the league
with three weeks to go in the 2000-01 regular season. SCSU will play at
UW-Madison on Feb. 16 and Feb. 17. In the latest NCAA polls, SCSU owns a
#7 ranking in both the USCHO and USA TODAY/American Hockey Magazine polls.
A business major at SCSU, Weasler is the son of Don and Terry Weasler of
Rosemount.
