Let he who sinneth not judge the "morality" of any D1 program- from Harvard
that admits hockey players with under 1000 SATs; to Union who takes a program
designed to aid foreign students (after denying athletic scholarships) that
will benefit our friends [Canadian hockey players] from north of the 49th
parallel; the bottom line for the coach- is win- win or be gone. D1 is just a
glorified form of entertainment sponsored by the college though not
necessarily controlled by the school- hockey is on much smaller scale than
basketball or football- but the bottom line is the same. All the "great
coaches" from Rockne to Blaik to Wooden (UCLA outbid Holy Cross for Lew
Alcindor a/k/a Kareem)- who is kidding who- with a Tarkanian- you don't have
the hypocrisy you see with these phony platitudes and the prostitution of
college recruiting sessions etc. I have seen and I suggest to all of you who
think any D1 sport is about education and character [never mind watching the
class of a Cornell home crowd] go read Murray Sperber's book or best of all
watch Coach Lou Holtz who believed in the old adage- "one step ahead of the
posse" - win and you are just a good ol boy- lose and you'll coach the local
bantam b team
