In defense of our hockey program here at Minnesota, I must point out that
this is only 2 bad years in a row, unless you consider our conference
co-championship year in 96-97 to be a "bad" year.

As someone who has seen the Gophers play many times this year, I thought
I'd throw in my $.02 worth. It seems to me that this year's freshman class
(including Adam Hauser and Jordan Leopold) will be strong, and the juniors
more than hold their own, but other than captain Wyatt Smith the seniors
are disgusting. Defenseman Bill Kohn has given up a ton of breakaways, and
Mike Anderson has been a huge disappointment. The team has also had the up
and down play that can be associated with a mediocre team. The third
period against Ohio State last week was simply awesome, but the 1st two
periods were terrible. Had one of those periods even been decent, we
would've won the game in the 3rd, but this team just doesn't seem to show
up for a full game. Hopefully next year will be a turn around with the
younger players having more experience, at least the ones who are playing.
I guess my biggest complaint about Woog lies in the playing time some
young players receive. Minnesota's Mr. Hockey from last year, John Pohl,
has played very sparingly lately and it seems like everyone has forgotten
what he accomplished before he got here (like becoming the state's all-time
leading scorer). Otherwise, I think Wooger is doing about what he can with
this team.
