Since Engineer fans have seen their season ended, except for the great
show coming to town this weekend, it's time to engage in "wait until next
yearing". This morning's T-U has an article about the six recruits who
have committed to RPI for next season.

Most of the names are already on USCHO, but I two of them were new to me.
From the T-U:
"Matt Murley...is the crown jewel" (insert hype here) "Murley, who plays
for the Syracuse Junior Crunch, led the Metro Toronto Junior Hockey League
in scoring with 56 goals and 70 assists during the regular season. ...At
midseason, Murley was ranked as the 72nd best prospect in North America by
the NHL's Central Scouting Buireau. His standing may improve when the
next rankings are released."

"One NHL scout said Murley arguably is the best incoming freshman in the
country." (Please not another Bryan Massotta.)

"The other five RPI recruits are: Hamish Cunning, a 5'11" 185 lb.
defenseman from the Ottawa Senators of the Central Junior Hockey League;
Chris Migliore, a 5'10", 170 lb. right wing from the prep school Avon
Farms; Steve Munn, a 6'2" 200 lb. defenseman from Merritt of the British
Columbia Junior Hockey League; and Andrew McPherson,a 6' 180 lb. right
wing from the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League."

Cunning is a steady defenseman with some offensive skill. Munn is a
physical player who likes to call the area in front of this net "The
House of Pain," according to Eddy Beers, his juniors coach.

Henkel had 41 goals and 49 assists for the Coyotes, who won the EJHL
regular season title. "He'll remind you a bit of Adam Oates with his
vision," (not) said Coyotes coach Gene Reilly. "He's as bright as anybody
we've had."

McPherson can skate and has good hands, but needs to work on his defense,
Dauphin general manager Randy Daley said.

The article also includes information on Union's seven recruits, including
"highly touted goalkeeper Brandon Snee of The Hill School in Pottstown,
Pa...Snee, who is 6' 180 lbs., is ranked among the top 20 goaltending
prospects in North America."

Also, heard at the Fieldhouse last weekend. The 1998 Xmas Tourney will
again feature a lackluster field including, surprise! Union, Merrimack
from HE, and Minnesota Duluth from the WCHA.

Hope to see you all at the Pepsi (there I said it) next weekend.
