Michigan State was defeated 6-3 tonight by a superior Minnesota team in a
penalty-filled game at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. State's
apparent defensive game plan was ineffective against the strong Minnesota
offense and defense. Part way through the Second Period, MSU called a
timeout after going down 5-1; thereafter State opened up the game and
played some offense but it was too little too late.

In the early game, Miami played a very strong first period but Cornell
made the necessary adjustments and carried the rest of the game, winning
4-2 with their last score an empty net goal. Only two penalties were
called in the entire game.

The attendance (8,236) was announced as being a record for the NCAA West
Regionals.
