I sent this to someone else but thought it would be a good postscript to
the discussion here earlier today.

On the seedings & pairings:

I was *very* close. You can consider Miami and Cornell to be
interchangeable. (there is a reason why the section is called "Seedings
and PAIRINGS" - emphasis mine - the pairings is what matters most in the
end.) So the only thing I was really off on was the bottom two seeds in
each region - flip them and you have the same thing I had. Those were
close calls anyway but I think I have figured out why it was done this way
and it makes sense to me:

WEST

Once you know that you have

1W Michigan
2W NoDak

then Minnesota has to be 4W not 3W. That leaves Miami, MSU, and Cornell,
but Miami and MSU cannot meet in the first round. So who goes in the
Michigan-Minn bracket?

Well, Michigan is #1. So let's put the lowest team out of Miami, MSU, and
Cornell in that bracket. Going by PWR, Miami was 10th, Cornell 9th, and
MSU 13th. So it's MSU.

And the other West bracket is set. Cornell might have a beef on not being
the higher seed for the game with Miami...they have the higher PWR and if I
were Mike Schafer, I'd want the last change and everything else that goes
with being home team.

EAST

Let's follow the same method.

1E Clarkson
2E BU

UNH should be 3E but because of BU is shifted to 4E. Vermont becomes 3E.

Now, CC & Denver. In PWR, CC is 12th, DU 11th. Put the lower ranked team
in the bracket with the top East seed, Clarkson.

Remember that what really matters is the brackets, not the actual number of
the seed within the region. When I say shift UNH to 4E, what I am really
saying is move them out of BU's bracket.

Still, as I said, I'd like to know why Miami is 3W ahead of Cornell (and
presumably home team for their game). That is my biggest and probably my
only question.
