Repeating something I've said a lot recently, I don't know the details of
this specific situation.  But in general, there are reasons why this
sometimes happens.  Very often, NHL clubs don't get serious about negotiating
with their draft picks until a point that is 'too late' for a college team.
 July/August is not an infrequent time for players to sign.  It is only now
that Gophers fans are breathing a little easier about Mike Crowley and Erik
Rasmussen, and even so, nothing has been said officially.
