Mike Machnik asked the following:

----------------------------------Mike on :)--------------------------------
No. 2 Consideration of Legislation - Ice Hockey
INTENT: To delete the constitutional provision related to voting on
legislation pertaining to ice hockey.
BYLAWS: Amend 5.1.4.3.6, page 48, as follows:
[Dominant provision, all divisions, common vote]
<begin italics>"5.1.4.3.6 Ice Hockey. An institution that is a member of a
different division than its ice hockey classification shall vote on
amendments pertaining to ice hockey in the division in which its ice hockey
team is classified."<end italics>
SOURCE: NCAA Administrative Committee.
EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately.
{end quoted material}

If I understand this correctly, since this bylaw is being deleted, the 20
or so schools that play DivI hockey but are classified as DivII or III
institutions will no longer be able to vote on rule amendments that deal
with DivI hockey.
---------------------------------Mike off------------------------------------
It sounds to me like they want the schools voting on amendments on the sports
they play in the division that they play in, i.e. School A has a DivI Hockey
team and is DivIII in all other sports.

If there is an amendment to be voted on, School A will vote for Hockey changes
in the Div I vote, and in all other sports in DivIII.

One thing that Mike wrote a week or more ago was:
----------------------------------Mike on -----------------------------------
* "The committee voted to eliminate the 'one-referee, two-linesmen'
officiating system and replace it with a 'three-man' officiating system.
The new system consists of a referee and two assistant referees, both of
whom can call penalties at certain points on the ice."
---------------------------------Mike off------------------------------------
I'm really surprised this hasn't gotten any attention here. Is it because the
parameters of "who calls what where" has yet to be defined? If so, has anyone
heard anything more about it? Or are we all just spending too much time in
the sun (especially those of you in Alaska near the Arctic Circle)?
