MARQUETTE, Mich. -- Freshman Corwin Saurdiff made 25 saves and Jim
Hiller scored twice as Northern Michigan moved into first place in
the WCHA with a 4-1 win over Wisconsin here Saturday night.
The victory gave the Wildcats (7-3-2 overall, 6-2-2 WCHA) a sweep of
the two-game series with the Badgers (6-6 and 6-6), whose only goal
of the night was a shorthande effort by Chris Nelson.
Tony Szabo and Bill MacGillivray also scored for Northern Michigan.
Hiller`s second goal of the game was his fifth game-winner of the
season. Wisconsin`s Duane Derksen made 35 saves. Northern Michigan
has now won four straight and is 45-3-3 in its last 51 games at home.
Outstanding goaltending from both sides in this game. Saurdiff
lowered his league-leading GAA to 2.21, to go along with a .923 saves
percentage and a 7-1 record.
