OK! Look, people are beiing way to sensitive about this.
My Woog comment is in no way a reflection about the quality
of the program. I may have overstated a bit when I said
Woog was not a good coach. So, given the influx (privately
and over the list) of hate email, I will retract a bit.

Is Woog a bad coach? No, he is an excellent coach. But, and this
is a big bit, he hasn't won the big game yet! Why this is, is very
curious to me. Anyone who has seen MN play there team can testify
to the following. In a number of games, I have seen MN play the
beloved Badgers. In the past few years, I would go as far to say
WI had the edge in talent. But, certainly not in bench coaching.
Time and time again I remember Bucky taking a couple of goals lead
into the dressing room. And then in the third period a otherwise flat
MN team would look like the Edmonton Oilers.

This tells me that Woog knows how to coach during the game and under pressure
(I've seen this happen late in the season and keep WI from
getting first place in the WCHA). But why does his team fall
short? I'm not saying he should be fired, he's done a great
job and has been pointed out to me, his is a clean program
(for all the time I lived in Madison I can't remember seeing
many articles about one of his players doing things off the
ice they shouldn't have).

I've just pointed out a weakness, that's all. And if I took
it to the next level by WOOFING it up a little, I'm sorry.
But, how many of you people out there say the same things about
the Buffalo Bills, the Atlanta Braves and the Portland Trailblazers?
When you mention these teams everyone points to their regular
season record and then says, "But,....."!

To defend myself a little I will say that the only reason I brought
it up was because of Powers' idiotic column! It's not as
if I just posted out on the list "Woog Sucks!!!" That would
be considered low and cheap and generally only something
I hear from Chicago Bearz fanz (when they are not stuffing their mouths
with sausage). Boy, I'm sure going to hear it about
that comment (and I'll deserve it). But I didn't deserve
most of the responses I've been getting!

Oh, BTWhere's hoping Bucky and the Golden Gooph's (sorry
I can never resist :)) sweep the CCHA this weekend.
Wish I was there!
