The Hockey East intelligentsia were on hand for last night's Merrimack
at BC game. Spotted there were PC coach Mike McShane, Lowell head
coach Bruce Crowder, and BU asst Blaise MacDonald. Lowell and BU are
likely to each draw one of BC/MC in the first round, and PC has BC
twice this coming weekend.

Following is from the HE press release, 2/21/94.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Don Chase, BC, So F: Chase had 3 goals in 3 games, two instrumental in
tying contests. He scored the tally that tied Harvard 1-1 and forced
overtime in the Beanpot championship and tied UNH 2-2 on the way to
 a 3-3 finish.
Christian Sbrocca, UML, So LW: Sbrocca had two goals and three assists
for five points, including one game-tying goal, in the weekend sweep
 of Providence.
Honor Roll: Jay Pandolfo, BU; Mark Goble, MC; Scott Malone, UNH; Mike
 Veisor, NU; Brady Kramer, PC.

ROOKIES OF THE WEEK
Blair Allison, G, Maine: Allison held #3-ranked BU to 83:25 scoreless
minutes in two contests, with 37 saves before being removed from
Sunday's game due to injury. [This makes it sound as if Allison
was removed without having given up any goals on the weekend...
actually, I believe BU led 4-1 in the third when Allison was
injured. Not to disparage Allison's fine play, though. - mike]
Greg Taylor, G, BC: Taylor was named MVP of the Beanpot Tournament and
won the Eberly Trophy with 67 saves in two contests, including 40
in the two OT win over Northeastern.
Honor Roll: Greg Bullock, UML; Martin Legault, MC; Eric Boguniecki,
 UNH; Travis Dillabough, PC.

NOTES (paraphrased by Mike and gleaned from stats)
* The 0-0 overtime tie between BU and Maine marked the first time in
the history of both schools that either played in a 0-0 OT tie. For
BU, it was the 1670th game in its 73-year hockey history. And for
Maine, it was the 632nd game in its 17-year hockey history.

* BU closed out the season 2-1-1 vs Maine, the first time since
1985-86 that the Terriers have taken the season set from Maine.

* BU junior goalie J.P. McKersie posted his first collegiate shutout
in the 0-0 game.

* Lowell freshman C/LW Greg Bullock became the first Chief rookie to
hit the 50 point plateau since Jon Morris reached it in 1984-85, the
first season of HE. Bullock's totals stand at 21-29--50, and he has a
six-point lead over teammate Shane Henry in the HE overall scoring
race.

* Obviously, Bullock is the leading freshman scorer in HE. However,
only three other freshmen rank among the top 44, and no others are to
be found among the top 25. UNH's Eric Boguniecki is 28th (12-14--26),
PC's David Green is 34th (10-14--24), and Maine's Dan Shermerhorn is
44th (9-14--23).

* In HE games, Bullock's 11-19--30 rank him first. No other freshmen
are among the top 31 league scorers listed.

* Among the top 33 overall scorers, in addition to two freshmen, there
are only 4 sophomores. This doesn't bode well for the future of the
league.

* Lowell's .694 winning pct (18-6-7) is its best since moving to DivI
in 1983. UML is 9-1-5 in its last 15 games.

* Merrimack's five wins in February 1994 top the previous two
Februarys (1993, 1992) combined.

* UNH junior Scott Malone eclipsed the team record for penalties in a
career with his 109th last weekend vs BC.

* PC forward Chad Quenneville was kept off the board in both games
last weekend by Lowell. That snapped his 11-game goal scoring streak
(18 goals) amd his 12-game point scoring streak (18-6--24). The
Friars, who were hot in January, are now just 0-3-2 in their last 5
and 1-4-2 over the last 7.

* With UMass's 13-2 thrashing of DivII expansion Sacred Heart, the
Minutemen tied the school record for wins in a season, set by the
1971-72 ECAC DivII Champion UMass team. UMass hit the 20 win mark
last night with a 12-1 demolition of North Adams. The Minutemen
(20-8) host RIT Fri 2/25 at 7 pm to close their season.
