Yeah, any coach can request the split third period...As far as regular
season games go, only Jack Parker and Shawn Walsh have made a habit
of insisting on the switch. In the NCAAs both the Minnesota coach last
year and Jerry York of Bowling Green the previous year requested the switch.
In watching games, it never seems to be much of a factor, and in fact
worked in reverse the other night. In the second period, with the
BC bench on the Northeastern side of the ice, Dave Emma was able to
jump off the bench around the Northeastern blue line, catch an onside
pass and cruise in on Cole.
