UMASS DARTMOUTH WINS 17TH IN ROW,

POMFRET, CT– Freshman goaltender Jeff Green (Medway, MA/Valley Jr. Warriors) recorded his third shutout of the season as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team blanked host Nichols, 5-0, in their ECAC Northeast Conference game at the Jahn Rink Saturday night. With the victory, the Corsairs extended the longest winning streak in the nation, clinched first place in the ECAC Northeast Conference, and assured themselves of hosting playoff games in all three rounds of the playoffs, should they advance that far.

Senior forward Eric Frank (Waltham, MA/Traverse City Enforcers) scored twice for the Corsairs. Senior forward Ian Seaver (Ludlow, MA/Springfield Cathedral HS), sophomore forward Paul Garabedian (Belmont, MA/Belmont HS), and junior forward Peter Lindner (Parlin, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) scored the other UMass Dartmouth goals.

With the victory, UMD broke Nichols’ 10-game winning streak and handed the Bison only their second home ice loss of the season. The Corsairs are the first team to shut out Nichols this season.

UMass Dartmouth out shot the Bison, 30-28. Green made 28 saves, while NC’s Keith Fink made 25 saves.

The Corsairs improved to 21-4-0 and 14-1 in the ECAC Northeast Conference with the victory, winning their 17th game in a row and 18th in their last 19 games. Nichols fell to 16-6-2 overall and 9-3-2 in ECAC Northeast play, and finished fourth in the final standings. The Corsairs will return to action when they host an ECAC Northeast first round playoff game next Saturday at the Hetland Ice Arena.
