As the Jeff Tory situation fades into the past, there is one
thing on my mind: Why doesn't the NCAA raise academic stand-
ards for athletes who are awarded athletic scholarships?
 
Tory has since had to give back scholarship monies he was
awarded by the University of Maine, but there is something
wrong when colleges and universities give "C" students money,
but plenty of other, more deserving students who have much
more academic promise don't get any.
 
The NCAA should raise its academic standards for scholar-
ships and award them only to student-athletes who grad-
uated from high school with at least a "B" average.
 
Just a thought for this morning...
