Our computer is doing a (scheduled) yo-yo impression this weekend (hence the
post from my "maroon" account), so forgive me if someone already posted this:

From Saturday's (9/25/93) Star-Tribune:

Few tickets remain for 'U' hockey games

by John Gilbert

Gophers hockey tickets for the upcoming season are almost sold out, and sellouts
of the new 9,130-seat Mariucci Arena have been announced for games Dec. 11 vs.
North Dakota, Jan. 8 vs. Wisconsin and Feb. 6 vs. Minnesota-Duluth.

With the Gophers moving from their old facility to Mariucci Arena, ticket
manager Ken Buell said the poblic reorder for season tickets brought almost 100
percent renewal. More than 1,100 applicants responded to a lottery for the 250
remaining season tickets, which include 200 standing-room season tickets. In
addition, 200 reserved standing-room tickets will be sold on an individual-game
basis.

The university has set aside 1,700 seats for student sale, and any of those not
sold will be made available to the public. Otherwise, the only remaining
tickets are a few on the club level, where donations of $1,000 per person are
required along with the price of a ticket, with the proceeds going toward the
cost of the new facility.

I'm not quite sure they should really announce a sell-out of those 3 games
BEFORE the student-season ticket sale, although it's an inevitability. Looks
like Wisconsin's reign at the top of the national attendance figures has come to
an end.

A couple other notes:
Classes started here Thursday, and Gopher baseball player Mark Merila's
education was paid for by a baseball scholarship, meaning that the senior, who
had been working out with the Gophers hockey team in captains' practices, will
not be eligible to play hockey.

Sports Illustrated has a "Faces In the Crowd" of John Harris of Edina, MN, who
won the U.S. Amateur Golf tournament this year. He was also a member of
Minnesota's 1974 NC$$ Championship team.
