CCHA LEADS ALL U.S. COLLEGES WITH SEVEN
PLAYERS SELECTED IN NHL ENTRY DRAFT
The Central Collegiate Hockey Association garnered nearly 50% of all
U.S. college players selected in the NHL Entry Draft on June 26th in
Quebec City.
Over the last four years (1990-93), the CCHA has accounted for 50%
(51 of 105) of all U.S. college players selected in the NHL Entry
Drafts. Miami's Kevyn Adams was taken in the first round this year
giving the CCHA 11 first round selections since 1985.
The CCHA also had seven incoming players taken, including Michigan
recruit Brendan Morrison and Lake Superior newcomer Matt Alvey, both
selected in the second round.

Thirteen CCHA Players to Participate in U.S. Olympic Sports Festival:
Team West and Team North each have five CCHA players on their rosters,
while Team South has three players. Representing the West squad will
be Aaron Ellis (G,Bowling Green), Justin Krall (D,Miami), Kevyn Adams
(F,Miami), Ryan Sittler (F,Michigan) and Josh Wiegand (F,Michigan
State). Skating for the North team will be Chris Slater (D,Michigan
State), Matt Alvey (F,Lake Superior), Jason Helbing (F,Bowling Green),
Kevin Hilton (F,Michigan) and Scott McCabe (F,Lake Superior). On the
South squad will be Tom Askey (G,Ohio State), Blake Sloan (D,Michigan)
and Tim Harberts (F,Notre Dame). The Festival runs from July 23rd
until August 1st in San Antonio, Texas with the games being played in
the 50,000 seat Alamodome.
Lake Superior's Brian Rolston receives Bob Johnson Medallion:
Brian Rolston was one of two individuals presented with the Bob Johnson
Medallion during ceremonies at USA Hockey's Annual Meeting in Colorado
Springs on June 11th. He received his medallion in recognition of
excellent play during the 1993 World Junior Championship Tournament in
Gavle, Sweden, where he helped lead the United States to a fourth place
finish. Rolston is one of three USA Hockey players to have ever
participated for three separate National Junior Teams.

Comments:
First, apologies for any typos.
With 14 drafted players (assuming Aaron Ward has played his final
collegiate game), the 1993-94 Wolverines have the lowest total for
Michigan in the past few seasons.
With regards to the Olympic Festival, I understand from Jeff Weiss
in the CCHA Office that its sole (at least primary) intention is to
scout/develop/select the Junior National Team. I.e., if a player is
going to the Olympic Festival, don't look for him on the Olympic
Team. [Charlie, can you forward this to OLYMPUCK? Thanks.]
