This was a classic SLU/CU battle. I didn't write down times of scores but
 t
I will do the best I can to remember.

St. Lawrence came out with a lot of determination, and each team play up
 and down
and down hockey. I believe more time was spent in the CU zone than the SLU zone
but that is not official. The period ended with a 0 - 0 tie and both teams r
ready to go at it. The officials were letting players really bang on each other
 r
so they did. Both goal tenders played flawlessly with Rogles getting a great de
deal of support from his defense. Time and time again SLU tried to beat Dave
 Tretawit
Tretowitz by breaking in on his side ono on one and each time he was able to
check and break up the play or steal it outright. He played a sensational game.

In the second things began to go more Clarkson's way. Both teams skated
 wel
well, however Clarkson was able to capitalize on scrambles in front of Kuntar.
Mark Green scored on the power play to give the Knights a 1-0 lead about 5 min
minutes into the second. The power play was almost over and CU was in deep on
Kuntar. Green was standing right in the close slot and caught a rebound/pass
coming through the crease and he tapped it in.
Craig Conroy scored about 5 minutes later when the SLU defense could not
clear the puck after Kuntar made an initial save. Conroy had a clear shot and
 he
he beat Kuntar high to the stick side. Green got an assist. These two goals
really got the crowd into it and thereby charged up the players. Clarkson
never went into its "shell" in this game and the results were encouraging.

In the third, any questions about goaltending were answered. Chris Rogles
made two save that could have been goals. One was when he slid across the c
crease to his right and stuck his glove back to the left and snagged a puck from
 them
the air. It was amazing. (Sorry both of these saves came in the second period,
 not the third
not the third, my bad) The second amazing save was when the SLU offence had a
two on none and Rogles somehow stopped the shot after playing the shooter,
watching him pass about 5 feet in front of the crease, and then stopping the sh
shot from point blank range into a seemingly open net. I will be the first to
admit that this save was luck. Pure and simple luck that he could get in the wa
way of the puck. The SLU players played it like they should have Rogles just
got lucky. It was kind of how the game would go for SLU, close but no cookie.

In the third, yes actually in the third, Clarkson outskated the saints with
regularity. Most passes up ice were intercepted and SLU didn't spend much time
 atacking
attacking. There were a few anxious moments however when Mike Cassleman took a
slapshot from the right of Kuntar ( in the face off circle ) and hit him on the
helmet right above where the mask attaches. The helmet broke and Kuntar was
bleeding and dazed. Play was stopped for about 5 or 10 minutes as the trainerrs
worked on him. They elected to allow him to stay in the game and he was not
as sharp afterwards. It was like watching Joe Thiesman's leg break in football,
you knew it was a bad thing. Kuntar showed a lot of grit to stay in the game
 and
he did make several saves after the shot. One goal was scored after he was
 dazed
dazed but it turned out to be meaningless. Mike Kozak scored around the 16:00
minute mark for the insurance marker.

               1 2 3 T
-----------------------------------------

St. Lawrence 0 0 0 0
Clarkson 0 2 1 3
-----------------------------------------

Saves: Les Kuntar : 26
        Chris Rogles : 26

Shots on goal :
                 SLU 26
                 CU 29

It should be noted that this is Clarkson's third shutout of the year and that
Rogles has blanked opponents in 2 of his last 4 starts.

Power Play:
    SLU : 0 for 4
    CU : 1 for 4

I know it is a lengthy write up but it was a great hockey game. It is what
college hockey is all about.
