In a game played 12/10/90 at Merrimack's Volpe Complex, the Merrimack Warriors
stunned the world by beating the Boston College Eagles 6-5.

The game started well for Merrimack. Junior Rob Kelley picked up a loose puck
in front of the net. He fired a beautiful wrist shot that BC goalie Scott
LaGrand couldn't catch for a 1-0 Merrimack lead. The assist went to Jeff
Massey at 2:11

It took BC just 1:33 to tie the game. Marty McInnis scored to tie the game
at one. The assist went to his linemate David Emma.

A note on the Kelley goal, it was his first as a Warrior.

Matt Crowley helped the Merrimack cause at 6:23. He took a shot that bounced
off of LaGrand and into the net for a 2-1 Merrimack lead. The goal was
unassisted.

Again BC tied the game. Bill Guerin scored at the 12:20 mark to tie the game
at 2. The assists went to Jeff O'Neill and Mark Dennehy.

Jeff Massey put the Warriors back on top. He took a beautiful pass from Rob
Atkinson out in front of the net. Massey banged the puck over LaGrand's
shoulder for the goal. It came at 15:29.

In the second period, the Warriors started to make things look like they were
going to walk away with it. Dan Gravelle scored from Ben Lebeau at the 5:25
mark to make it 4-2. The goal was scored while Merrimack was going on a 3
on none.

Merrimack scored again at the 11:06 mark. Agostino Casale took a Teal Fowler
pass in front of the net and banged it past LaGrand for the goal.

Then BC started to show why they are nationally ranked. Ted Crowley scored on
a slap shot when the Warriors were unable to clear their end. It was unassisted
at the 11:26 mark.

BC inched closer. Michael Spalla scored from Ted Crowley and Steve Heinze.
The goal came at the 15:38 mark. That made the score 5-4 Merrimack.

When Merrimack is down, they go to Agostino Casale, and once again he came
through tonight. He scored the eventual game winner at 7:01 of the third.
Merrimack had been on the powerplay (the goal was scored two seconds after
the penalty expired). The line of Howie Rosenblatt, Casale, and Fowler
controled the puck for two minutes. Casale got the goal from Rosenblatt
and defenseman Tim Doyle.

BC made things interesting. They had a 5 on 3 advantage and cashed in on
a Steve Heinze goal. The assists went to Dave Emma and Ted Crowley at the
12:45 mark.

BC came VERY close in the closing minutes. They hit two posts, and Steve
D'Amore should have an S on his chest for some of the saves he made.

Scoring By Period:

Boston College 2 2 1 - 5
Merrimack 3 2 1 - 6

Shots on goal:

Merrimack 6 7 7 - 20

Saves:

LaGrand (BC) 3 5 6 - 14
D'Amore (MC) 12 15 10 - 37

Definately a game BC should have and could have won. BC came out flat in the
first and I think that killed them. Steve D'Amore played excellent in net for
the Warriors. They will need him until Yannick "Goose" Gosselin returns.

Speaking of which, Yannick is scheduled to return to the Warriors on or about
January 2nd when Merrimack plays the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. It would
be nice to see Goose ready to go then.

Merrimack next plays at the Nissan-Jeep Classic in Anchorage, Alaska.
MerrimackAlaska-Anchorage, Dartmouth, and British Columbia are in the
 tournament.
