OK, vacation is over for those of you still tied to school schedules.

Which means I got questions. And some opinions, natch.

o Saw the OSU-Michigan on the tube. Great job by OSU to knock off the
Wolverines in the shiny-new "Schott." Looked pretty nice on TV, but that
doesn't say much. Anyone care to comment on the new arena?

o Maine 3, CC 3 in overtime. Maine led 3-1 going into the third -- what
happened then? Did they simply run out of gas? Were they relying too much
on Michaud once again?

o Colorado College has gone 0-2-1 in its last three games, all against
Hockey East opponents. Two of these games were in their backyard where
they're used to one of the best home-ice advantages in college hockey. What
gives?

o Which leads me to the WCHA. Aside from North Dakota, it seems this league
has taken a major nosedive. The two recent games I've seen Colorado College
play haven't particularly impressed, their pasting of Lake Superior State
notwithstanding. Denver has managed to beat two of the best teams in the
country in the past week, but still don't play like a team poised to
challenge for a league title. Wisconsin is similarly bland, and Minnesota
is well, weak. In-conference third place is held by Alaska-Anchorage with a
5-5 WCHA record -- 8-8 overall. What gives?

o Just what the heck is going on in the ECAC? Upsets galore, and some
success in the holiday tournaments. Is it stronger than people think,
perhaps the most hotly contested conference in the league? Or is it a lot
of mediocre, inconsistent teams?

o Notre Dame. Blown out the first night by North Dakota, storms back the
following night to win 4-3. They've won some good games this year and are
definitely a team on the rise... but playing in the CCHA, will they ever
pose a consistent, serious threat?

o And finally, Hockey East is arguably playing the best hockey it's seen in
15 years, and the best hockey in the country right now. 3 teams in the top
7 in the country, and BU ain't one of 'em. Is this a sign of good years to
come for HEA, perhaps a New England Hockey Renaissance?

GO BU!
