Gophers athletes posted an all-time high grade-point average of 2.84 in
the fall and repeated that in the winter and spring quarters. The
Gophers athletes have improved .20 grade-points since 1990 and are
within .20 of the totals of the women athletes.
 
Ben Clymer, the Gophers defenseman who missed most of last season
because of a shoulder injury, told assistant coach Mike Guentzel last
week that he is going to sign with the Boston Bruins, who drafted him
with the first pick of the second round, 27th overall, in 1997
 
With goalie Erik Day sidelined for the season, either Eveleth-Gilbert
goalie Pete Samargia or Moorhead's Jason Gregoire will be the Gophers'
third-string goalie this season
 
Former Gophers center Ryan Kraft has signed a contract with the San Jose
Sharks and will play this season in either the American or East Coast
leagues
