Selection is cut and dried.
Seeding is cut and dried.
Bracketing can be subjective.
 
My use of apparently was because I wasn't sure there weren't more steps
involved and thought I might be misspeaking.  The confusion is that people
are not clearly specifying which part of the process they are talking
about - so the overall process has been confusing and explanations have
not clearly differentiated among the three steps.
 
It remains to be seen how many years can be strung together in which
the total process is carried out in exactly the same way.
