No real argument with the coaches' choices, just a couple of thoughts. I
also added in HE stats where I knew them.

I had thought two leading candidates for the Ceglarski Award were Pandolfo
(40 HE pts, 6 PIM) and Jeff Daw (28, 4). I had not even considered Hall,
but when I heard he was the winner, I nodded and thought it was a truly
wonderful choice.

My second choice for Coach of the Year would have been BC's Jerry York.
Crowder wins for the second time in three years. Shawn Walsh was the only
other coach to do that, twice.

Two players left out were Eric Boguniecki, UNH (tied with Pandolfo for
second in HE scoring, 20-20--40) and Brendan Concannon, Lowell (fourth,
11-23--34). I would have liked to have seen Concannon honored myself. Not
sure who he would replace, though.

Returning players from last year who did not make it: Mike Grier, BU;
Jordon Shields, NU; Chris O'Sullivan, BU.

Pre-season selections who did not make it: Grier (t20th, 11-14--25),
Shields (t12th, 11-18--29), O'Sullivan (not listed in the top 27), and Dan
Shermerhorn, Maine (t20th, 10-15--25). Stats are HE.

>DEFENSEMEN:
>Dan McGillis, Northeastern (7-19--26, t16th)
>Jeff Tory, Maine
>Todd Hall, New Hampshire
>Jon Coleman, Boston University

This was perhaps the one area where there was little doubt. All four
pre-season selections made the team. No returning selections did not make
it.

>Blair Allison, Maine (3.09, .882, 1185:09, 10-5-4)

I had Dennis and probably Noble or Allison. A strong case can be made for
Noble (2.89, .895, 769:00, 9-2-1), but my guess is that Allison got the nod
based on similar numbers but more than 400 more mins played. Greg Taylor
of BC would also have been up there for me, but he wasn't even in the top 8
in HE GAA. A few bad games hurt him.

Martin Legault of Merrimack (3.58, .888, 854:36, 2-10-2), last year's
choice along with Allison, had the lowest overall GAA in the league (2.92,
.900, 6-9-5). But he was sixth in HE and out of six games Merrimack played
against BU and Maine, Legault only played nine minutes against BU. Legault
was also a pre-season choice who did not make it.

>G-Michel Laroque, Boston University (3.71, .882, 615:00, 8-2-1)

Again, no surprises. I had Reasoner (who didn't) and Kariya as forwards
and was up in the air on the third. I noticed near the end that Bekar was
having a great rookie year and so I was not surprised at his selection.

D and G were also pretty clear.

Finally, the pre-season coaches' standings and the actual finish:

PRESEASON ACTUAL
1 BU 1
2 Maine 3
3 UNH 6
4 Northeastern 7
5 Merrimack 9
6 Mass Lowell 2
7 Providence 4
8 BC 5
9 Mass Amherst 8

That's why they play the games...
