Following are most of the hideous details.

Goals
Clarkson 2 - 0 - 4 6
Vermont 1 - 0 - 2 3

Shots on Goal
Clarkson 11 - 3 - 14 28
Vermont 13 - 9 - 10 32

One just really needs to look at the shots on goal to see how this game
went. Clarkson showed up for the game, but didn't play until the third
period. Thankfully for Clarkson, their goalie, Jason Currie, was there
for the whole game.

Clarkson started the scoring early. During some pressure after the
opening face-off, Dubinsky picked up the puck along the boards to the
right of UVM goalie Soucy. Dubinsky sent the puck back to Sabo at the
point who drifted into center ice before firing a shot. Freshman
defenseman, Brian Mueller, got his stick on the puck and redirected it
past a partially screened Soucy at :48. UVM would come right back
though and even the score at 1:14, when Fingerhut would pick intercept a
clearing pass and beat Currie with UVM's first shot. This was a shade
of things to come, goals come in pairs very quickly. For the next ten
minutes, UVM would out play Clarkson; bumping the Clarkson forwards
right off of the puck and not allowing Clarkson to cross the red line.
Both teams would have a power play opportunity. Clarkson took the lead
at 12:04 after killing a penalty 6 sec earlier. Clarkson had managed to
get the puck into the UVM zone during the penalty killing and keep it in
there with some forechecking. After Ed Henrich finished serving his
penalty, Sabo slipped into the UVM zone uncovered. As he got below the
right face-off circle, Belanger fired the puck cross ice to him. Sabo
just one timed it pass Soucy. The other assist went to Tavi. During
the period, Currie had to make some big saves against the UVM forwards
to keep Clarkson in the game. Clarkson's offense would only show some
life in the final 5 minutes of the period.

Clarkson looked worse and Currie looked better in the scoreless second
period. The three power play opportunities that Clarkson had helped
them get their measly 3 shots in and relieve some of the pressure on
Currie. Clarkson would have to kill only one man down situation.
During that time, UVM came close with a couple of shots just going wide
of the goal. Again, UVM was able to bump the Clarkson forwards off of
the puck. Clarkson was able to clear their defensive zone into neutral
ice, but that was it. It had UVM running back to get on-sides a lot and
didn't allow them to apply any real extended offensive pressure.

The #5 ranked Clarkson team showed up for the third period, thankfully.
However, it was UVM who started the scoring. The UVM goal at 3:18 was
their prettiest goal of the night. Kearney and Fingerhut working at the
boards to Currie's left, caused Clarkson to turn over the puck while
trying to break out. Kearney slid the puck cross ice to Machanic, who
coralled it and then flicked it by Currie. Clarkson would not allow any
momentum to build up on the UVM side as they scored at 4:11. On a rush
into the UVM zone that started with Mueller picking up the puck at
center ice and passing it forward to Sabo. Sabo came in on Soucy's left
and then crossed it to Dubinsky who put it through Soucy's feet. But
UVM was not out of it yet. Jim Larkin had a Clarkson clearing pass go
right into his body. He skated in on Currie and drilled a hard shot
that hit Currie in the shoulder and rolled up, over and trickled in at
9:12 to tie the game again. Again, Clarkson would score right after and
take the lead for good on a nice goal by two freshmen. Clarkson
defensman Anderson cleared his zone up to Marchant who was with
Tuomainen against two Vermont defensemen. Speedy Marchant came down the
left side and crossed the puck back to Tuomainen. Tuomainen went high
upstairs over Soucy for the game winning goal at 9:41. Clarkson would
pad their lead with some solo physical effort from Thomas who came in
from the neutral zone, got by a UVM defenseman and beat Soucy at 13:35,
assisted by Robitaille and Conroy. UVM went on the power play at 14:22.

Now, I know that hand passes are legal in the defensive zone, but here's
what happened. Mueller swatted the puck down with his hand at his end
line. The puck rolled along the boards, pass a couple off players and
then over the blue line where a Clarkson player picked it up. I didn't
hear what the penalty was really for, delay of game? It was a hand pass
that started in the defensive zone, rolled for several seconds before
crossing the blue line. Most of the fans were upset with call, as was
Coach Morris.

Craig Conroy would get his second empty net goal at 18:52 from Henrich.
UVM had pulled Soucy as they exited their zone, but turned the puck over
at the red line. The UVM defensemen looked flat footed against the
Clarkson forwards (for a change) in the third period. They weren't
going after the puck as much as before either.

Other ECAC scores:

SLU 9, Dartmouth 1 (SLU wants those extra TCHCR points :-) )
Harvard 7, Union 5 (Union was down 5-1 at one point.)
RPI 4, Brown 1
Yale 10, Colgate 5
