Jim Carey, who was a goalie for the University of Wisconsin last year,
has been assigned to the AHL's Portland Pirates according to an article
in this morning's Washington Post.
 
In the Washington Capitals' training camp Carey played only one period in
a pre-season game, but apparently played very well.
 
There are 4 other goalies all trying to get the remaining 3 goalie spots
and competition is very tight.  Nevertheless, the Capitals seem to feel
the Carey will become a very good NHL goaltender after some experience in
the AHL.
