The College Hockey Discussion List Poll for December 15, 1993:

Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place
vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first-
place votes are in parentheses.

Ah, consistency, thy name is Michigan, at least where the polls are con-
cerned. The Wolverines reside in the top spot in the HOCKEY-L poll for the
sixth week in a row, and once again they grabbed all the first-place votes.

No surprise who the big winners are this week. Kudos to Mass Lowell, who
knocked off Northeastern and Maine, a pair of ranked Hockey East teams, at
home last weekend, and to Northern Michigan, who went down to WCHA-leader
Colorado College and came away with a sweep, propelling themselves into a
share of the league lead. The Chiefs and the Wildcats both jumped seven
places in the poll as a result.

On the flip side, we have defending NC$$ champion Maine, which is continuing
its slide in the polls. Two weeks ago, the Black Bears were sitting at #2,
but they have gone 1-4 in their last five games, and they dropped six spots
after losses to New Hampshire and Mass Lowell last weekend, barely hanging
on to tenth place. Bowling Green also plunged half a dozen spots after
losing a pair at home to Alaska-Fairbanks -- which, by the way, makes its
first appearance of the year in the top 15.

Honorable (?) mention: As befitting RPI's up-and-down season, the Engineers
are once again out of the top 15 after losing to Princeton.

     Colorado College

Dropped out of Top 15: RPI (#13 last week)

A pretty even split between Eastern and Western responses this week, and the
agreement between the two regions is quite close as well. One oddity,
though: Eastern voters were surprisingly more harsh on Bowling Green for
its losses to Alaska-Fairbanks than the Westerners were. In addition, most
of the support that put the Nanooks into the poll this week came from the
East.

     Eastern responses: Western responses:

Not a terribly exciting composite this week, as the only poll I saw was the
NC$$ Office one posted by Bri Farenell. Hmm, an "Office" poll -- I keep
picturing people hanging around the water cooler tossing ideas back and
forth... "How 'bout Michigan #1 and Lake Superior #2, yeah, that sounds
good..."

In this week's ratings composite, note the rather close agreement between
the HOCKEY-L poll and TCHCR. The top six teams are identical in each, and
there is not too much difference among the remaining nine. As a matter of
fact, if we extend the HOCKEY-L poll and look at the top 16, we find that
the same teams appear there (in slightly different order) as are present in
this week's TCHCR. I guess Keith's rating system works pretty well :-)

With only one media poll, this week's Tadpoll won't be terribly exciting,
but here it is anyway, along with Tad-rate:

There won't be a HOCKEY-L poll between Christmas and New Year's, so next
week's poll will be the last of 1993.
