Summary:

Once again Union had a 3rd period lead get away, as Princeton rallied
for a 4-4 tie Saturday. The Dutchmen had a 4-2 lead with 2 minutes
left before 2 quick Princeton goal sent the game into overtime. 3 of
Union's last 4 games have gone into overtime. Union is 0-1-2 in those
3 games.

The teams skated through a very even and scoreless first period.
About all the excitement came on a Union power play, when the Dutchmen
hit the crossbar. The Tigers took a 2-goal lead with goals just 26
seconds apart midway through the second period. Union got on the
board on a Jon Sicinski goal at 13:48. Cory Holbrough tied the score
for Union with 1:01 left in the second. The teams each had 10 shots
in the first, and 13 in the second.

Princeton came out shooting in the 3rd. Mike Gallant helped keep the
score tied until Union took the lead on a nice carry in by Chris
Albert. Jeff Jiampetti gave Union a 4-2 lead at 14:36 when he broke
in alone on Princeton goalie James Konte. He got Konte to go to his
right, and put the puck into the corner above his left shoulder. Then
Princeton really went to work. Most of the last 5 minutes were spent
in the Union zone. With 1:41 left, Union paid for their inability to
clear the puck when Sean O'Brien put a nice one-timer past Gallant.
Konte was pulled as soon as the play went back into the Union end. It
seemed like all 11 skaters were in the crease, and Mike Gallant was
laying in the goal when someone for Princeton poked in the tying goal.
Dan Brown was credited with the goal for the Tigers. Princeton had 20
shots in the 3rd period.

The five-minute overtime saw each team get a few chances, but the game
ended in a 4-4 tie. There was some excitement when the red light went
on after a pile up in front of Gallant. The referee immediately
signaled no goal, but the entire Princeton team was out celebrating
anyway.

This game was the kind that the Dutchmen really need to win if they
want to make their first ECAC playoff appearance. Especially coming
off of the Brown loss, where they had a lead until 16 seconds were
left in the game. You can't let late leads slip away this often.

Union is now has a league record of 0-4-1, still last in the ECAC, and
2-4-2 overall. Princeton continues their good streak to improve to
2-4-3 in the league and 3-5-3 overall. The Dutchmen will break for
Christmas and return to action the week after in the Concordia
Tournament.
