This is just to clarify my December 1st letter that I submitted to the
network. I had clearly stated that if the Gophers can find good young
talent in their home state, great recruit there. But evervbody also
knows there are excellent hockey players in other states as well as
Canada. This brings me to my point. With the emergence of St. Cloud
State into the WCHA and talk about Mankato State and Bamidji State
possibly turning division I, this will thin out the best Minnesota
recruits. Everybody who disagreed with my Dec. 1st letter said its a
"tradition" that they all come from Minnesota. Well usually or
"Traditionally" Minnesota is always on top in the WCHA, now there in the
cellar. Also a talented player from another state may want to go to the
University of Minnesota to pursue a career in some academic field, and
play hockey also. It would be hillarous if some player came from Canada
or Wisconsin and was already a draft pick for some NHL team and he tried
out for the Gophers and was just fantastic, would the coaching staff
say, "Well your pretty good, but sorry you didn't make it, your not from
Minnesota."
