Wisconsin and Northern Michigan split their weekend series.
Northern has obviously improved considerably since early in the year
when they got wiped out in Madison. Northern has a good shot at
finishing 3rd in the league. I believe they have the 2nd best home
record in the WCHA. It will be interesting to see how they do
when they host Minn-Duluth in a few weeks.
Steve C. already posted the Friday night box score. He mentioned
an incident in Friday's game involving Wis. goalie Jim Carey. Carey
saw the ref signal an upcoming penalty and skated to the Wis. bench
thinking the penalty was on NMU. In fact, the penalty was on Wis
for too many men on the ice. NMU shot the puck into the empty Wis. net.
Carey was quite upset with this incident. He claimed that referee
Jim Burlew signaled the penalty while Wis. had the puck. Hence if the
penalty were on Wis. the whistle should have been blown immediately.
I didn't see the play so I am just relaying Carey's version of the
play.
