UMASS DARTMOUTH BLANKS UMASS BOSTON, 6-0

NEW BEDFORD, MA– Junior forward Kyle McCullough (Danvers, MA/Boston Junior Blackhawks) and sophomore forward Jeff Grant (Burlington, MA/Austin Prep) each scored twice and freshman goaltender Jeff Green (Medway, MA/Valley Junior Warriors) had a shutout in his first start as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth hockey team blanked visiting UMass Boston, 6-0, at the Stephen Hetland Memorial Ice Arena Tuesday evening.

McCullough, who scored in the second and third periods, assisted on Grant’s goal that opened the scoring at 4:54 of the first period. Junior defenseman Paul Carr (Springfield, MA/Springfield Cathedral HS) also drew an assist.

Junior forward Ray Kirby (Fairhaven, MA/York Stars/Salem State) converted passes from junior forward Jim Foley (Brockton, MA/Catholic Memorial HS) and senior forward Ian Seaver (Ludlow, MA/Springfield Cathedral HS) to make it 2-0 at the 2:48 mark of the second period. McCullough made it 3-0 at 11:03, assisted by Carr and sophomore defenseman Tyler Crocker (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield HS).

The Corsairs scored three times in the third period. Grant scored at 2::05, assisted by Foley. McCullough scored a power play goal at 12:28, with junior forward Peter Lindner (Parlin, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and Carr assisting. Senior forward P.J. Lovett (North Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS) finished off the scoring at 18:26, with Seaver and senior forward Mike McPherson (Chelsea, MA/Brewster Academy) assisting.

UMass Dartmouth out shot the Beacons, 43-22. Green made 22 saves to earn the shutout, while Matt Lopes made 37 saves for UMB.

UMD improved to 11-4-0 with the victory, winning their eighth game in a row and ninth in their last 10 games. UMass Boston fell to 0-14-1.  The Corsairs will return to action when they host Southern New Hampshire Saturday.
