Colgate skates out of Schenectady tonight with a hard-fought 1-0 win
over Union. Jon Smyth got the game-winner 11:26 into the first period
with a power play goal. Colgate's Steve Silverthorn had 21 saves while
Justin Mrazek had 18 for Union.
Colgate showed why they're the 10th-ranked team in the country by
continually frustrating Union, who couldn't find much of rhythm on
offense. Union generated a lot of pressure in the last 2 minutes after
Mrazek was pulled, but Silverthorn and Colgate's defense were able
to keep Union from scoring.
Colgate (9-1-0) has opened up a 2-point lead in the ECAC while Union
drops to 5th place at 7-5-0.
