After starting the ECAC regular season with three consecutive road
games, Brown opened at home this evening with a scintillating 6-0 victory
over Yale at Meehan Auditorium. The win lifted the Bears to a 3-1-0 record
in ECAC play and marked the return of junior forward Les Haggett to the
Bears' top line. Haggett, the team's second leading scorer a year ago, had
been sidelined since a preseason knee problem required medical treatment.

Backboned by their veteran and talented defensive corps, the Bears
limited the Eli to but a few quality shots and enabled senior goaltender
Yann Danis to post his 10th career shutout.

Scoring two goals in each period, Brown put the game out of Yale's reach
early in the third period when Haggett tallied his first goal of the season
on a Bear power play after taking a nifty pass from freshman forward Brian
Ihnacak. The goal increased the score to 5-0 and allowed Brown to
concentrate on protecting Danis' shutout.

Senior forward Nick Ringstad collected two goals on the night, the first
at 2:08 of the opening period, with assists to junior defenseman Gerry Burke
and sophomore forward Joe Bauer. At 12:47, the Bears struck again as
Ihnacak scored on a setup from Haggett and senior defenseman Scott Ford to
increase the lead to 2-0. More of the same in the second period, as junior
forward Chris Swon beat Eli freshman goaltender Matt Modelski after taking a
pass from sophomore forward Cory Caouette. Ringstad registered his second
goal, at 19:10 with Bauer and senior forward Shane Mudryk earning assists,
and Caouette closed out the scoring at 9:44 of the final period with Swon
and junior defenseman Paul Crosty credited with assists on the play.

SCORING:
Brown 2 2 2 = 6
Yale 0 0 0 = 0

PENALTIES:
Brown 5 for 10 min.
Yale 6 for 12 min.

SAVES:
Danis (Brown) 13 9 9 = 31
Modelski (Yale) 23 7 3 = 33

The Bears now turn their attention to the arrival of the Princeton
Tigers at Meehan Auditorium tomorrow evening. Fresh from their upset
victory at Harvard tonight (4-2), the Tigers always seem to play Brown
tough, regardless of the team records. The Bears will be seeking to
continue their momentum in conference play, and pesky Princeton will be
attempting to complete an altogether unexpected road sweep.
