released from the team because of academic shortcomings."

Welch was a key player and the rigorous demands of college hockey should not
be subordinated to going to classes-this is not a requirement for football
players or basketball players (on the other hand it should help with Title
IX). Coach Lucia also noted that someday he hoped the hockey team would have
a university it could be proud of
