By Street Characters Inc. Communications staff
If you want to know the names and origins of college and university mascots in the United States, you will want to read a new book published by a Pennsylvania based sports management professor.

The book, "Mascots, The History of Senior College and University Mascots/Nicknames," is written by Dr. Roy E. Yarbrough, an associate professor at Neumann College, located in Aston, PA.

The book identifies the mascots and nicknames of more than 1300 American post-secondary institutions, from the well known Notre Dame Fighting Irish to the obscure Banana Slugs of the University of California Santa Cruz.

Dr. Yarbrough's interest in mascots is long seeded, harkens back to his days as a college student in the late 1960s. While an undergrad at Greenville College in Illinois, he performed as The Panther, in a costume built with the help of his mom.

The book retails for $24.95 US and may be ordered by phone through Book Masters Inc. The number to call is 1-800-247-6553.
