TO U.S. JUNIOR SELECT TEAM

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men’s hockey signee Bobby Goepfert
(Kings Park, N.Y./Cedar Rapids Roughriders-USHL) was named to the roster
for the 2002 USA Junior Select Team, which plays for the Viking Cup. The
U.S. Select team is comprised of 21 Junior A players from the United States
Hockey League (USHL) and the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

Goepfert is one of two goaltenders named to the team, as he leads the USHL
in all major goaltending statistics. Goepfert and his teammates on the
Select Team will look to successfully defend their Viking Cup title from
2000 in the biannual event. The USA Hockey Junior Select Team will compete
in round-robin play during the preliminary round in group B, which also
includes the Alberta Junior A All-Star Selects, the Saskatchewan Junior A
All-Star Selects, the Finnish National Selects and the Slovak National
Selects.

This year’s U.S. schedule begins on December 27 with a game against
Saskatchewan. The squad then has a day off before its next game on Dec. 29
against Slovakia. The next day, Team USA will face off against Alberta. The
team closes out the preliminary round on January 2 against Finland. The
single-elimination quarterfinal round is on January 4 with the semi-final
round on January 5 and the medal games on January 6.

Goepfert signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Providence
College Friars beginning in the 2002-03 season. He is one of three players
who have committed to HOCKEY EAST Association schools for next season.
