2001 PROVIDENCE HOCKEY TEAM AWARDS ANNOUNCED

         PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College hockey team announced
its annual team awards  for the 2000-01 season.
         Sophomore left-wing Devin Rask of Parkside Saskatchewan received
the Lamoriello Award, which is given to the team's most valuable
player.  In 38 games, Rask tallied 23 goals and notched 28 assists.  He
finished first on the team in scoring (51 points), goals (23), power-play
goals (10) and assists (28).  He also earned Second Team All-America,
All-HOCKEY EAST and All-New England honors for his strong play in 2000-01.
         Senior defenseman Matt Libby of Saco, Maine received the Team's
Plus/Minus Award and the Team's Academic Award.  Last season, Libby
recorded a plus/minus rating of 16, while registering a career high in
points (30), goals (10) and assists (20).  For his efforts, Libby earned
Second Team All-HOCKEY EAST honors, All-New England accolades and was named
the Most Improved Player in New England.  Libby, who has 3.69 grade point
average, has the team's highest GPA.
         Freshman defenseman Regan Kelly of Imperial, Saskatchewan earned
the Reverend Herman Schneider Award, which is given to the team's most
valuable freshman.  Kelly, finished seventh on the team in scoring (25
points) and tied for second in assists (21).  Kelly was the runner-up for
the HOCKEY EAST Rookie of the Year and earned HOCKEY EAST All-Rookie
accolades during the 2000-01 season.
         Senior forward J.J. Picinic of Fort Lee, N.J. earned the Thomas
Eccleston, Jr. Award as the squad's unsung hero.  In 40 games, Picinic
scored a career-high 12 goals and added five assists.  He finished tied for
the team lead in game-winning goals with four.
         Senior defenseman Jay Leach of Altamont, N.Y. and sophomore
goaltender Nolan Schaefer of Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan received the Friar
Award, which is given annually to the team's top defensive player.  Leach,
a 1998 fifth-round draft pick of the Phoenix Coyotes, notched 25 points
(four goal, 21 assists) in 40 games.  Schaefer, a Second Team All-America
selection, a Second Team All-HOCKEY EAST  selection and an All-New England
honoree, appeared in 25 games, posting a 2.47 goals against average and a
.915 save percentage.
         PC finished the season tied for second in HOCKEY EAST with a
13-8-3 record and an 22-13-5 mark overall.
