WHO'S HOT:   FREGOE, RASK, OMICIOLI LINE recorded 17 points  (seven goals,
10 assists)in the weekend sweep of Umass-Amherst.
........Devin Rask has recorded three or more points in four out of the
Friars' last six games........The Friars' penalty killing unit is operating
at a league-leading .901

Omicioli posts seven-point weekend... Junior Drew Omicioli (West Warwick,
R.I.) tallied four goals and three assists (seven points)as the Friars
recorded a weekend sweep of Umass-Amherst. Which helped to boost the Friars
into a first place tie in league standings.  On Saturday, Omicioli had two
goals and one assist and earned the game's No. 1 star.  On Sunday he had
two goals and two assists and earned the game's No. 1 star.   For the
season Omicioli has recorded six goals and eight assists in 15 games.  This
season Omicioli has recorded five multiple-point games and 13 in his career.

SCHAEFER SOLID IN A PAIR OF WINS...Sophomore Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass,
Saskacthewan) allowed just one goal in 104 minutes of play during the
Friars' weekend sweep of Amherst and posted a 0.58 goals against average
and a.976 save percentage in the two games.   On Saturday night, Schaefer
recorded 23 saves as he recorded his second career shutout in the team's
4-0 win at Schneider Arena.  On Sunday night, Schaefer entered the game
midway through the first period with the Friars trailing 4-0and allowed
just one goal as the squad registered an 8-5 come-from-behind win at the
Mullins Center.  For the season,  he has posted a 7-3-1 record with a 1.66
goals against average and a .945 save percentage.

FRIARS SWEEP UMASS-AMHERST...PC's record stands at 11-5-3 and 7-3-1 in
HOCKEY EAST play as the Friars recorded a pair of victories over
UMass-Amherst on January 6-7.  On  January 6, Nolan  Schaefer (Yellow
Grass, Saskatchewan) recorded his second career shutout as the Friars
posted a 4-0 win over Umass at Schneider Arena.  Drew Omicioli (West
Warwick, R.I.) earned the game's No. 1 star as he tallied two goals and one
assist.  Devin Rask (Parkside, Saskatchewan)  dished out three assists
while Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.) notched one goal and two assists.  Mike
Lucci (Parma, Ohio)added one goal for PC.  On January 7, the Friars were
trailing UMass-Amherst 4-0 after the first 18 minutes of action.  Then the
Friars exploded with six unanswered goal in route to a 8-5 victory.  Once
again, Omicioli earned the game's first star, scoring two goals and two
assists.  Matt Libby  (Saco, Maine) and Rask each notched two goals for the
Friars.  Jon DiSalvatore (S. Windsor, Conn.) and Marc Suderman (Regina,
Saskatchewan)recorded a goal each for PC.  Schaefer entered the game with
PC trailing 4-0 and recorded 18 saves and allowed one goal while earning
the win.

Multiple Points... In two games, versus UMass-Amherst, the Friars had seven
players register multiple points.  Led by Drew Omicioli's(West Warwick,
R.I.) four goals and three assists,  Devin Rask (Parkside,
Saskatchewan)  had two goals and four assists, Peter Fregoe  (Massena,
N.Y.) recorded one goal and three assists, Matt Libby (Saco, Maine)tallied
two goals and one assist, Jon DiSalvatore (S. Windsor, Conn.)notched one
goal and one assist, Regan Kelly (Imperial, Saskatchewan)dished out two
assists and Marc Suderman (Parkside, Saskatchewan)  scored one goal and one
assist.

SHORT HANDED...The Friars tallied two shot-handed goals in their 8-5 win
over UMass-Amherst on January 7.  Marc Suderman (Regina, Saskatchewan)and
Drew Omicioli (West Warwick, R.I.)notched the short-handed tallies for the
Friars.  Overall, the Friars have recorded four short-handed goals this
season and Omicioli has recorded three of them.

BUILDING AND HOLDING THE LEAD...PC is unbeaten this season when holding the
lead at the second intermission, (10-0-3).  The Friars are also an
impressive 11-0-2 when scoring three or more goals.

VERSUS UNRANKED Opponents...The Friars have posted a 6-4-1 record versus
unranked opponents this season.  The Friars have defeated Miami on October
20, Union on October 29, Merrimack on December 2 , Ferris State on December
29 and UMass-Amherst on January 6-7.  PC lost to Brown on November
4,  Merrimack on December 1, UMass-Amherst on December 8, and Denver on
December 30.  There  only tie versus an unranked opponent was at Denver on
November 25.  However, PC's record against ranked teams is 5-1-2.

Next FOR the FRIARS... The Friars will host Iona on January 12, 2001 at
7:00 p.m. and Holy Cross on January 14, 2001 at 2:00 p.m.

THE IONA/PROVIDENCE SERIES... January 12, 2001 will be the first meeting
ever between the Gaels and the Friars.

THE HOLY CROSS/PROVIDENCE SERIES...Sunday will mark the fifth meeting
all-time between the Crusaders and the Friars with PC holding a 4-0
advantage in the series.  The two team first met on February 5, 1953 with
PC prevailing 10-0 at the RI Auditorium.  The two schools have not met
since the Friars defeated  the Crusaders, 10-0, on February 28, 1957.

LIBBY SHINES AT THE BLUE LINE...Senior Matt Libby (Saco, Maine) tallied two
goals in the Friars 8-5 win over UMass-Amherst on January 7.  Libby
assisted on one goal in the squad's 4-0 win over Amherst on January
6.  Libby is second on the team in scoring with 23 points (9 goals and 14
assists) in 18 games and has recorded  five multiple-point games.  The
Friars' captain has recorded at least one point in 15 of the 18 games he
has played and is the highest scoring defenseman in HOCKEY EAST.  Entering
this season. Libby had recorded three goals and 13 assists in 110 games and
had registered just one multiple point game.
