UPCOMING GAMES: The #8/9 St. Cloud State menšs hockey team (13-4-1, 7-4-0
WCHA) will entertain the Russia Select Team at 7:05 p.m. on Dec. 18, in the
National Hockey Center (cap. 5,763). SCSU was ranked #8 in the last USA
Today/AHM poll released on Dec. 12. In the USCHO poll, SCSU was ranked #9
on Dec. 12.
THE RESULTS: SCSU charted a 3-1 win over Alaska-Anchorage on Dec. 15 in St.
Cloud...SCSU's Jon Culen, who owns an 8-game scoring streak, charted his
third game winning goal of the season at 8:37 of the second period with
assists from Matt Hendricks and Keith Anderson. The goal came after Mark
Hartigan opened SCSU's attack with his 12th goal of the season at 14:50 of
the first period...Matt Shasby posted UAA's lone goal at 10:59 of the second
period before Tyler Arnason iced the game with a goal at 19:04 of the third.
Goalie Scott Meyer gained an assist on the goal, his second of the 2000-01
season...Meyer was the goalie of record in the game with 22 saves, while
Chris King had 20 saves for UAA. In the game, SCSU and UAA both had 23
shots on goal...on Dec. 16, the Huskies gained a 4-3 win over UAA. Joe
Motzko scored the game winner at 15:30 of the second with an assist from
Ritchie Larson and Ryan Malone on the power play. Cullen opened the game
with his seventh goal of the season at 3:45 of the first before Larson
charted two consecutive goals - both with assists from Arnason and Brandon
Sampair. Jake Moreland was the keeper of record with 24 saves. UAA outshot
the Huskies 27-23 in the game.
FINAL 1999-2000 RECORD: In 1999-2000, the Huskies continued their tradition
of excellence with a 23-14-3 overall record and a 16-9-3 third place record
in the always rugged WCHA. The Huskies advanced to the Final Five of the
WCHA tournament last season, which included a 6-4 third place win over
Minnesota. The icing on the cake was a trip to the 2000 NCAA Division I
East Regional, and a number 12 ranking in the final Division I national
poll. The 23 wins ties a school record for most wins in a season. The
Huskies also had 23 wins during the 1997-98 campaign.
HEAD COACH: SCSU coach Craig Dahl (Pacific Lutheran, 1976) in his 14th
season as head coach for the Huskies. He is the only coach that SCSU has
had since moving to the NCAA Division I level in 1987-88. Dahl has a career
record of 242-237-38 at SCSU and a 20-year career coaching mark of
318-325-40. Dahl won his 300th career game on 2/19/00. In 1997-98, Dahl
was named the WCHA Coach of the Year. He has won more games than any SCSU
hockey coach. In 2000-01, Dahl will be assisted by Doc DelCastillo (SCSU,
1992) in his third season and first year coach Brad Willner (Lake Superior
State, 1995).
ALL-TIME RECORD: The Huskies and Coach Dahl both own a 242-237-38 record
since the program went Division I in 1987-88. This is the first season that
the Huskies have gone above .500 with their overall record since going
Division I...The Ferris State game on Oct. 13th was the 500th Division I
hockey game in the history of the program at SCSU. The game was also Dahlšs
500th as a coach at SCSU.
HUSKY BITS: Jeff Finger posted an assist on Dec. 16, which snapped a
13-game scoreless streak for the frosh defender... Ritchie Larson equalled
the best game of his career with three points vs. UAA on Dec. 16. Larson
also had three points vs. DU in 1999-00. He now has nine goals and 14
assists in his career...Jake Moreland saw his first action in the nets since
coming in to relieve Scott Meyer during a 4-3 loss at Minnesota on Nov. 18.
Moreland is 2-1 this season with a 2.26 GAA and a .910 save%...SCSU was
outshot by UAA on Dec. 16, which has not too uncommon this season. SCSU has
been outshot by its opponents 10 times this year but the Huskies do own a
7-3 record in those game...SCSU gained a season low with only eight
penalties during the UAA series. SCSU equalled a season low with only four
penalties for eight minutes on Dec. 16. SCSU also had four penalties for
eight minutes vs. Ferris on Oct. 14.
HOT STREAK: Jon Cullen has been on a roll with a point in the past eight
games for SCSU. Cullen had goals on both nights of the UAA series, which
keeps alive his scoring streak started on 12/1. He currently has seven
goals and seven assists this season and ranks third on the team in scoring.
Not bad, considering he only had one goal in the teamšs first 10 games.
MOVING UP ON THE CHARTS: Tyler Arnason ranks 25th in the all-time scoring
charts at SCSU with 95 career points (40g/55a), while Brandon Sampair is
26th with 91 points (40g/52a)...Sampair now ranks 10th in the Division I
charts at SCSU with 40 goals, while Arnason is 10th with 40 career
goals...Mark Hartigan is making a quick climb with 34 career goals (16th
place) and Nate DiCasmirro is tied for 23rd with 27 career goals ...for
assists, Arnason is 13th with 55 assists. Sampair now has 52 assists and
ranks 17th (the 16th player in SCSU history to hit 50a level), while Keith
Anderson is next on the list with 45 assists (21st place). DiCasmirrošs now
has 35 career assists - 30th in the records...of note, Arnason ranks 11th
among SCSUšs Division I players for most career points with 95. Sampair is
ranked 12th among SCSUšs Division I players with 92 points. Jeff Saterdalen
is the Huskiesš all-time scoring leader with 179 career points (78g/101a)
from 1988-92...Arnason is 5 points away from SCSUšs 100-point club and would
be the 24th player in team history to reach that lofty plateau and the first
since Sacha Molin, who had 102 points from 1995-98.
GREAT BEGINNINGS: The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team got off
to its best start in the history of the program at the Division I level this
year. Through five games, the Huskies charted a 4-0-1 record, stopped by a
3-1 loss to DU on Oct. 28. The previous best five-game start of 4-1 was
charted in 1996-97. The Huskiesš 3-1 start in the WCHA was the best
four-game start in team history and its overall record of 6-1-1 was the
teamšs best ever 8-game start at the Division I level. At 13-4-1, SCSU is
off to its best 17-game start and has won 13 games faster than any season in
team history. SCSUšs previous best record over 17 games was 12-4-2 in
1997-98.
ON THE RADIO: Husky hockey can be heard on KNSI Radio 1450 AM during the
2000-01 season. The broadcasts will also be available on the web at
www.1450knsi.com. Don Lyons will call the play-by-play and former SCSU
All-American Dave Reichel will provide the color commentary for home
games selected games this season will also be broadcast live by KVSC FM
88.1...KNSI AM 1450 will also host the Craig Dahl Show each Monday at 5:05
p.m. during the season. The show will feature Coach Dahl, SC Times writer
Kevin Allenspach and host Don Lyons. The show is sponsored by Plaza Park
Bank/Investment Centers of America.
HUSKIES ON TV: A total of 18 Husky home games this season will be televised
live on St. Cloud's Charter Communications cable channel 65 this season.
Charter Communications are also slated to carry the games live on their
systems in Alexandria, Willmar and Little Falls. KSTC channel 45 (Charter
cable channel 17 in St. Cloud) out of the Twin Cities. Veteran announcer
Wally Shaver will call the play-by-play along with color commentary from
Doug Johnson. KSTC games slated for this season are Oct. 28 Denver, Nov. 17
Minnesota, Dec. 9 Wisconsin, Feb. 24 Mankato and Match 3 Minnesota.

HUSKY AUTOGRAPH DEN: SCSU fans can obtain autographs in the Husky Autograph
Den after each home game this season. Players slated to appear in the
autograph den after the game on Jan. 12 are Jeff Finger and Matt Hendricks
and on Jan. 13 are Ryan Johnson and Andy Lundbohm.
HUSKIES READING FOR FUN: Each year the St. Cloud Public Library and the
SCSU hockey teams combine to present the Husky Reading for Fun program.
This popular childrenšs reading program at the St. Cloud Public Library in
downtown St. Cloud, features SCSU players reading books on selected Saturday
mornings prior to SCSU home games. The program continues on Jan. 13, and it
will feature Peter Torsson and Mark Hartigan. For more information, please

ABOUT SCSU: The 1999-2000 season marked the 13th year that SCSU has been a
member of NCAA Division I hockey. SCSU joined the Division I hockey ranks
in 1987-88 and became a member of the WCHA in 1990-91. That first year in
the league, SCSU finished fifth with a 12-16-4 league record and an 18-19-4
overall record. SCSU's highest league finish has been third place, a
standing that was reached in 1996-97 and again in 1999-2000...since going
Division I, SCSU owns a 242-237-38 overall record.
2000-01 TEAM CAPTAINS: The 2000-01 team captain is senior forward Brandon
Sampair (Mahtomedi). Assistant captains are senior forward Keith Anderson
(Thief River Falls) and senior defenseman Ritchie Larson (Winnipeg, Mant.).
NOTES ABOUT RUSSIA SELECT: The Russia Select Team is in the midst of its
WCHA/USA Tour. The Russia Select team owns a 2-1 record with wins over
Wisconsin (5-1) and the US Development Team (3-0) and a loss to Minnesota
(5-4). LW Iouri Troubachtev leads the tour scorers with two goals and two
assists, while Andrei Teyernoskoutov is 1-1 in the nets with a 2.51 GAA and
a .914 save%. Serguei Nikolaev is the other keeper with a 1.00 GAA and a
.964 save%...the majority of the club hails from St. Petersburg, Russia.
TEAM NOTES: SCSU posted three consecutive ties against UAA from 1997 to
1999. SCSU owns an eight-game unbeaten streak against UAA dating back to a
5-3 loss in Anchorage on 2-8-97. That loss snapped an 8-game SCSU win
streak vs. UAA. The last time SCSU dropped a game to UAA at home was a 5-4
loss on 11-6-87. SCSU is 17-0-1 against UAA at the NHC (since it opened in
1989)... SCSU ranks first in the WCHA with a 2.33 goals allowed average and
fourth with 3.25 goals scored average...Scott Meyer ranks second in the WCHA
with a .933 save % and second with 2.02 GAA (WCHA games only)...Mark
Hartigan ranks 6th in the league with 1.42 ppg (10g/7a)...Derek Eastman is
approaching abnormal numbers with his stellar +16 on the plus/minus, while
Jon Cullen is +12. As a team, SCSU is +125...Jake Moreland is expected to
start vs. the Russia Select Team...SCSU will be off for the Holidays. The
next scheduled games for SCSU will be on Jan. 5-6 at Minnesota-Duluth. The
next home game for SCSU is slated for Jan. 12-13 vs. Michigan Tech...a total
of six players have played in every game this season for the Huskies (Jeff
Finger, Jon Cullen, Tyler Arnason, Matt Hendricks, Joe Motzko and Keith
Anderson)...Jon Cullen leads the team with three GWG this season. Motzko,
Hartigan and Anderson each have two...Hartigan leads the team with four
power play goals, while Arnason has a team-leading two SHG...Hartigan and
Arnason are both tied for the team lead with 56 shots this season, with
Duvie Westcott in third at 52 shots...SCSU dropped down to third place in
the WCHA with an average of 19.9 penalty minutes per game.
BIG CROWDS: For the fifth straight year, Husky Hockey averaged over 5,000
fans per home game. 123,504 people attended SCSU home games in 1999-2000, an
average of 5,881 per game. The attendance figure reflects a steady incline
as SCSU averaged 5,736 in 1998-99, 5,593 in 1997-98, 5-473 in 1996-97 and
5,004 in 1995-96...in home games this season, SCSU has an attendance total
of 57,685 for an average of 5,768 per game...On Nov. 17, SCSU was at
capacity for the first time in 2000-01 with a crowd of 6,685.
WCHA FINAL FIVE: The 2001 WCHA Final Five tournament will be held on March
15-17 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. For ticket information, please
call 651-989-5151...St. Cloud State made its fifth straight WCHA Final Five
appearance and sixth in the last seven years. SCSU is 3-8 overall in Final
Five games. SCSU reached the WCHA Final Five title game in 1994 after
beating Wisconsin 3-2 in overtime in the semifinal. SCSU's other Final Five
win was a 4-3 overtime win over Minnesota-Duluth in 1998 in the play-in
game.

action on Jan. 5-6, at Minnesota-Duluth.
