PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars defeated the 12th-ranked
Lake Superior State University Lakers, 5-1, on Saturday, October 29, 2000
at PC's Schneider Arena.
The Friars opened the scoring at the 2:34 mark as senior Matt
Libby blasted a shot from the point, beating Laker goalie Jayme Platt
giving the Friars a 1-0 lead. At the 6:24 mark Devin Rask registered the
first his of two goals on the night. The Friars made it 3-0 with less then
two minutes to play in the first period on Jon DiSalvatore's first goal of
the season. DiSalvatore's goal forced the Lakers to replace their starting
goalie Jayme Platt with back-up Scott Murray. Platt eventually took the
loss and managed to record eight saves before leaving the contest.
For the second straight night, the Friars' special teams shined,
registering four power play goals and successfully killing five of six
penalties.
The Lakers spoiled Friar goalie Nolan Schaefer's shutout bid at
the 4:40 mark of the third, as Jeremy Bachusz scored his second goal of the
season. The Friars' Jay Leach added the game's final goal at 18:13, the
squad's fourth power play tally of the night assisted by Peter Zingoni and
Drew Omicioli.
Nolan Schaefer recorded 26 saves for his first win of the season,
while Murray stopped 14 shots in 41 minutes of relief work.
With the victory, the Friars improve to 2-0-0 on the season, while
the Lakers fall to 3-2-0 overall.
Providence College will return to action on October 28 in their
