RPI put together 3 periods of solid defensive hockey to
defeat the Yale Bulldogs 3-0 at the Houston Field House.
RPI goaltender, Joel Laing, fresh off his MVP award at the
RPI Invitational earlier this week, recorded the shutout.
Tonight's victory against Yale was much less spectacular for Laing
than Tuesday's 50 save victory over UMD as RPI's defense
put together their best defensive showing of the season to date.
In addition, all the forwards dug hard in the corners and
along the boards and forechecked consistently all evening long.
Brad Tapper scored all the goals for the Engineers, recording
the hat trick at 19:45 of the 3rd on an empty netter while
RPI's George Murray sat in the penalty box.
Altogether, this was an encouraging victory as this was the
first time all season the Engineers put together 3 solid, consistent
periods of hockey. With their victories earlier this week against
Merrimack and Minnesota-Duluth and tonight's victory against Yale,
the Engineers carry some momentum into their toughest ECAC challenge
so far this season when the first place Princeton Tigers come to town
Sunday night. In Schenectady tonight, Princeton defeated Union 3-1.
