Hi -
Peter Gammons usually includes in his mid-summer baseball wrap-ups in
the Boston "Globe" a feature entitled "Line of the Week." In the same
spirit, I'll nominate the line-score from last night's Gophers/Huskies
game 1:
Scoring By Periods Shots By Periods Penalties Power Plays
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
St Cloud 2 0 1 = 3 6 1 2 = 9 10-20 2-3
Minnesota 1 0 0 = 1 9 18 15 = 42 6-12 1-9
Boy, when you're going bad, you're going BAD .... Minnesota allowed only
3 shots over the final 40 minutes, the last an ENG, and only 9 shots total
for the entire GAME, yet still managed to lose 1-3 .... I thought it some-
what of an abberation when BC and N'Eastern played a similar game at Conte
Forum earlier this year, but perhaps the wailing and gnashing of teeth re:
the dearth of scoring in the WCHA this season is right on the mark .... Hats
off to St. Cloud goal-keeper Brian Leitza who evidently played a terrific
game in net for the Huskies !! And condolences to all the Gopher fans,
who've now endured a team record 8-game (and counting) losing streak :-(
The interconference match-ups during the upcoming Holiday tournaments
should be *very* interesting to watch - stingy WCHA clubs like Wisconsin,
Minnesota and CC vs. high-powered HE/CCHA offenses like BC, UNH, and Miami.
Will the worm turn, or will this pattern continue as the schedules turn
the corner for the second half, and the League Title races heat up. Stay
tuned at a college rink/arena/center/coliseum near you !!
Happy Holidays from the Chesapeake - Jim
Go Blue !! Tame those Tigers !!
