Over 3100 fans saw a lackluster effort by the Clarkson University hockey
team defeat the Harvard Crimson by a final score of 4-2. After being in
a rut since the RPI victory, Clarkson finally put together a good 8 minutes
of hockey to defeat Harvard this afternoon.

The game started out slow, with Clarkson playing similar to last night.
Passes were not very crisp, and many cross-ice passes were intercepted by
the Crimson. Clarkson struck first in this contest, a score by Jean-Francois
Houle, his fourth of the season. Houle's goal came at the 5:32 mark of the
first period. Harvard responded about 10 minutes later. A goal by Geb
Marett (Ethan Oberman, Jason Karmanos) made it 1-1, and the teams skated
that way to the end of the period.

The second period was not much better for the Golden Knights as they did not
play like a team that was still undefeated in the ECAC, or the same team
that had tied BU or beat RPI in recent weeks. The teams played a scoreless
period of hockey, and the third period started in a 1-1 tie.

Harvard struck gold first in the third period as Marett scored again, his
second of the night to give the Crimson a 2-1 lead. Panic struck the Golden

Knights and the team noticeably picked up its intensity level. With about
8 minutes to play in the game, CU was still down 2-1. That changed very
quickly as CU scored 3 goals in the next three minutes. Dave Seitz
scored two in a row, and the third one was added by Houle to give
Clarkson a 4-2 lead, and put Harvard away. Clarkson continued with the
extra intensity until the clock read 0:00. A much needed victory
for the Golden Knights after a 4-4 tie to Brown last night.

The win gives Clarkson a 8-3-2 overall record and first place in the
ECAC at 6-0-1. Harvard falls to 5-5-1 overall, and 4-3-1 in the ECAC.

Dan Murphy had 20 saves on the night, and Tripp Tracy for Harvard had 26.
Clarkson was 1 for 6 on the power play, with Harvard unable to capitalize
in all five chances.

Clarkson next plays in the RPI tournament in Troy, NY on Dec. 29 and 30.
They play at 5:30 pm on the 29th, against HE team Providence.

Clarkson's next set of league games is the first weekend in 1996
when the team travels to Cornell and Colgate.
