Two former Spartans were called up yesterday to the NHL by teams preparing for
the playoffs. Kip Miller was called up by the San Jose Sharks while Joby
Messier returns to the New York Rangers.

Ralph Baer asked whether any other schools besides Michigan, Minnesota, Wisc.,
MSU, OSU, Notre Dame, and BC play Div. IA football as well as hockey. Add
to that list Miami, Bowling Green, and Western Michigan (we could also list
Kent, but, you know....). All 3 (4) schools play in the Mid-American Conf.,
which is classified as Div. IA by the NC$$, giving the CCHA 7 (8) Div. IA
hockey/football schools (the exceptions are Ferris St., Lake Superior, UIC,
and UAF).
