Female goalie and UNH grad Erin Whitten made her professional debut on
Saturday. She played the second period for the Adirondack Red Wings in
their AHL exhibition game against the Cornwall Aces.
 
Whitten gave up 2 goals on 12 shots and made a sensational glove save
on an Ace player. One of her goals was a point blank shot and the other
was deflected off a defenseman.
 
She can be sure to expect the obvious comparisons with Manon Rheaume.
One poster commented earlier that they felt that Rheaume was slighlty
better. Cornwall forward Paul Brosseau commented, "I played with
Manon Rheaume in junior and I'm sorry to say this girl [Whitten] is
better. She's not big, but she covers her ground."
 
Whitten is a graduate of UNH. She is also a glens falls native which
is why Adirondack gave her a shot. The Red Wings' ECHL club,
the Toledo Storm, "will have the first crack at brining in Whitten
for a tryout," according to wire service reports.
